Channel 4 said in a statement: 'The excerpts from the tapes recorded with Peter Settelen have never been shown before on British television and are an important historical source.

The intimate recordings, made in 1992, reveal Diana's conversations with her voice coach Peter Settelen, who trained her in public speaking.

Channel 4 will broadcast the documentary based on seven of the original 12 tapes with the remaining five said to be missing.

Diana tells her trusted interviewer, who apparently reluctantly released the rights to the footage everything from the best time of her life living with girlfriends in Earl's Court, to Charles' courting technique which involved him "following me around like a puppy".

RARELY-SEEN possessions belonging to Britain's late Princess Diana including her music collection and ballet shoes are to go on display this summer at London's Buckingham Palace to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

He said: "They were recorded privately and not meant for broadcast".

"I was brought up in the sense, when you got engaged with someone, you loved them", she said.

Royal biographer Penny Junor told the newspaper that Charles and Diana's sons princes William and Harry would not want the tapes aired again, saying it would be "deeply hurtful to them".

Ms Tominey said she doubted whether Diana ever thought the tapes would "end up on air", but Mr Settelen sold them To NBC in 2004. Another one of Di's closest friends and confidantes, Rosa Monckton, disclosed that the confessional videos are actually part of Diana's course of speech and are also a form of therapy.

A senior source said: "Neither the Duke of Cambridge or Prince Harry will be making any comment whatsoever expressing their views about the Channel 4 documentary".

He also stressed they would not be authorising any "friends" to speak out against the documentary Diana: In Her Own Words on their behalf.

Princess Diana struggled for years against bulimia and was "fading physically" after learning her husband, the future king of England, was cheating, long-time pals of the late royal said. "It was clear to all those who knew her that the bulimia was a reaction to the circumstances she found herself in".

But Diana: In Her Own Words remains on schedule. Why?

Princess Diana's ballet teacher, Anne Allan, also opened up about how Diana felt about Charles being disloyal to her.

Burrell was previously condemned by the princes for his "cold and overt betrayal" of Diana after publishing a book about his work with their mother.

But critics on the other hand labelled the show "completely inappropriate" - with some even arguing the footage did not belong in the public domain. It doesn't matter that it was 20-odd years ago.
