Kam Chancellor, Seahawks reportedly agree to contract extension

This is a good possibility as the veteran safety will be 33 years old at the end of his contract. The Seahawks were 0-2 without him, but finished the season 10-4 after Chancellor returned.

Chancellor played in 12 games last season for the Seahawks. Almost one year ago, Chancellor reflected on the lessons he learned from the holdout.

A 5th round pick by the Seahawks in 2010, Chancellor started his career playing on special teams while serving as a backup to Lawyer Milloy.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound safety puts the "Boom" in Seattle's Legion of Boom secondary, as he consistently sets the tone for the Seahawks defense. The deal includes $25 million guaranteed and Chancellor can earn up to $36 million.

Comments from both the team and Chancellor over the last two days gave the impression that it was only a matter of time before an agreement was reached on an extension.

You've seen how much money has been spent in the window and there's a month to go, it's insane . It's a great thing to play in'.

Chancellor indicated on Monday that the two sides were close to finalizing a deal.

"Hopefully it'll get done any time now", said Kam Chancellor, via Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com.

"I love this team", Chancellor said, via ESPN's Sheil Kapadia.

He also said he "would love to retire" with the franchise. Chancellor was entering the final year of his previous deal, a four-year extension he signed before the 2013 season that averaged a little over $7 million.

Chancellor is 29, and this extension makes that possibility very real.
