  • 3-month-old killer whale dies at Sea Wold San Antonio

SeaWorld San Antonio's three-month-old orca whale calf Kyara died Monday of apparent pneumonia, the theme park announced.

Kyara, a three-month-old orca calf, the last to be born in captivity at a SeaWorld facility, died on Monday after "serious and progressive health issues", the company said in a statement on Monday. "In addition to monitoring her 24/7, the expert veterinary staff was treating her with antimicrobials, including antibiotics, for any infections she was fighting".

The cause of death is considered to be a pneumonia-like infection, which is common in both whales and dolphins - either wild or the ones kept in captivity.

She had also been separated from her mother, Takara, to avoid risking the spread of disease, said SeaWorld.

She was conceived just before the company announced the end of its orca breeding program in March of previous year: Gestation can last up to 18 months. SeaWorld said it is monitoring the health of its other killer whales for any signs of illness.

Minneapolis Police Chief Resigns amid Controversy Surrounding Shooting of Justine Damond
The sign was gone when a Pioneer Press reporter drove by Sunday afternoon, but an identical sign turned up later in Minneapolis . He passed semi-automatic, handgun, shotgun and taser qualifications and took a Super Bowl active shooter training course.

In 2010 a trainer was killed by a killer whale in front of an audience and a documentary released in 2013 entitled Blackfish left many criticising the park.

SeaWorld now only has 22 orcas in total living at their facilities in Orlando, San Diego and San Antonio.

Instead of performances, SeaWorld will offer visitors the chance to view the orcas for 45 minutes.

The incident has caused animal rights activists to speak out against SeaWorld.

"Forty orcas have now died on SeaWorld's watch-it's time for the abusement park to move the remaining animals to seaside sanctuaries before the death toll hits 41", PETA Vice President Colleen O'Brien said in the statement.
