Sony has been developing a live-action Barbie movie for several years, with the goal of breathing new life into the 50-year-old brand while tackling issues such as female empowerment and what it means to be flawless.
According to The Tracking Board, Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway is now being considered for the lead role in the live-action Barbie movie, providing the upcoming production fits with what we can assume is a very busy schedule.
Prior to shooting the action film - which also stars Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and Sarah Paulson - Hathaway opened up about why the project was a good first movie to jump into after giving birth.
Sony still wants the film to release on June 29, 2018.

The footage was captured in the aftermath of a vehicle crash on the M37 motorway near Portsmouth on Saturday (July 22) morning.
The live-action comedy will be produced by Barbie creators Mattel, with Amy Pascal, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.
As previously reported, Schumer, 36, parted ways with the film in March due to other projects on the horizon. She likely wouldn't agree to tentatively star if she didn't think she could make it work, though, so expect Hathaway to finally bring Barbie to the big screen.
