Sky Sports News HQ understands Manchester United are looking to sign a defensive midfielder this summer and are interested in Dier as well as Chelsea's Nemanja Matic.

Reports suggest Dier would be open to a move to United if Tottenham agreed to let him move on but will not push for a switch to Old Trafford.

The Star says that the United hierarchy, including executive vice chairman Ed Woodward, are keen on Dier but it will be hard to lure him away from White Hart Lane. According to the Guardian, the England global is keen on a move to Old Trafford despite Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy insisting he's not for sale.

Currently Eric Dier is flavour of the month and Manchester United want to sign the versatile England worldwide. Dier played mostly in central defence as part of a back four or back three but wants to secure one position - defensive midfield.

It is said United are also keen on a move and feel he could be more attainable than Dier given Tottenham's current stance.
