Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter collapsed Thursday while at a Habitat for Humanity build site in Canada.

WXIA in Atlanta reports that he was heard saying "I'm exhausted", but continued working.

"Former US president Jimmy Carter became dehydrated this morning while working at a Habitat for Humanity build site in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada", the Carter Centre said in a statement.

Canada's Global News reported the former president said "I'm tired" and sat down before he was taken to the hospital. He helped build a house there in 1993, the CBC said, and it is still occupied by the original owner.

Net Neutrality Day of Action: Help preserve the open internet
In the past, developers such as Lorne Lanning, the creator of the Oddworld series, have spoken out in support of net neutrality . Campaigners claim that the removal of net neutrality would allow ISPs to "control who wins or loses on the internet".

The Carter Center said he is in the hospital being rehydrated and his wife is with him. "He has encouraged everyone to stay hydrated and keep building", a Habitat for Humanity spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

Former United States President Jimmy Carter speaks at "The Board of Directors of the Canadian American Business Council Presents A Converation With Jimmy Carter and Joe Clark" at The Carter Center on June 15, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. They are working with the organization to build 150 homes this week. In August 2015, he announced the melanoma had spread to his brain, and he thought he had only months to live. "Mrs Carter is with him", the statement said.

Carter is 92-years-old. He has appeared in good health recently, even being captured on video shaking hands with fellow passengers on an airplane. "I feel special gratitude to God for giving me a few more days".
