The Los Angeles Lakers got their first real taste of Ball dominating a game of basketball as the No. 2 pick led the purple and gold to an exciting 103-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Asked why he changed sneakers, Ball said it was "Mamba mentality", referring to Kobe Bryant's nickname.

"Just thought I'd switch it up", he said before later telling ESPN he had not yet heard from his dad.

Rather than wearing his own Big Baller Brand sneaker, Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball chose to wear some purple Nikes.

Lonzo Ball's new look drew attention from all kinds of people, including LeBron James, who signed a lifetime deal with Nike in 2015.

The Sixers continued to play without Markelle Fultz due to a high ankle sprain suffered in a previous Summer League game. Ivica Zubac was a factor down the stretch as he poured in 21 points, including the final two free throws at the end of the game to clinch the win. Ball has a long way to go to become the best guard ever, as claimed by his father Lavar, but he is certainly off to a very good start. He also had 11 assists and eight rebounds, though did tell ESPN he has to take better care of the ball after turning the ball over six times.

Matt Thomas showed off his shooting stroke once again, knocking down two three points en route to 10 points in the game.

Justin Robinson made a go-ahead jumper with 11 seconds remaining to send No. 12 Miami into a second-round matchup with the unbeaten and fifth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers.
