USA investigates cause of military plane crash

The identities of the people killed have not been released.

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) tweeted late on Monday that a "mishap occurred" involving one of its planes (a USMC KC-130).

There are still no official statements or reports on the cause of the crash and the subsequent deaths. The Marines say the aircraft was based at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York.

In a press conference Tuesday, officials from the Marine Corps acknowledged that ammunition was on board the flight without specifying what kind. "Keep them in your thoughts".

The military says the Marine Corps KC-130 plane that crashed in LeFlore County, Mississippi took off from an air station in Cherry Point, North Carolina. The Marine Corps confirmed it operated the plane. The Marine Forces Reserve has said the sailor was a corpsman, which is a medical specialist.
