IPhone 8 limbo: Apple reportedly in 'panic' mode with handset's software problems

  • Apple: Stay the Course Despite Component Chatter, Says Goldman

All I'm saying is, they better get the wireless software right because some speculate this new iPhone will come with a hefty $1,200 price tag. It's been rumoured for a while that Apple would ditch a home button altogether, and instead put its fingerprint sensor underneath a next-generation screen. (Our source believes Apple is using the Qi wireless charging standard, or a variant of it.) The wireless charging components, which are provided by chipmaker Broadcom Ltd., are not the key issue, the source said; it's the software that's not ready for prime time. Especially in light of the fact that Touch ID plays an integral role in the security of Apple Pay, it seems farfetched that Apple would suddenly abandon it for a brand-new, untested technology.

Apple hasn't announced a release date for the new iPhones - whose latest flagship model could be called the iPhone 8 or possibly the iPhone X - but they typically launch in September. Analysts believe Apple will either delay shipments, which would presumably affect fourth-quarter financial results, or deliver the phones without the fingerprint sensor, which could hurt company unit sales and overall sales mix.

Apple has done something similar before, too. But even though the hardware modules needed for the feature to work are good to go, the software reportedly isn't up to par yet.

In the past few years, Apple has released two iPhones - a 4.7-inch iPhone and a 5.5-inch iPhone. Until then, users would have to rely on Touch ID for unlocking their device and authorizing payments. Rather, it's the software that's not ready. The iPhone 8 is said to be completely redesigned with an all-new design with an OLED screen that covers the entire face of the iPhone.

They used surfboards for the stranded family to hold onto once the chain stretched all the way out to them. Ms Ursrey said she was "so grateful" to the people who had rescued her, describing them as "God's angels".

The report added that the new aspect ratio allows manufacturers to increase the size of a smartphone display while keeping it narrow enough to hold one-handed and still use the keyboard comfortably.

They also believe this delay and weaker-than-expected earnings from Apple on August 1 may hurt the stock and gave clients an options trade to benefit from the coming sell-off.

The smartphone, expected to launch this fall alongside an iPhone 7S and 7S Plus, comes in the tenth year of the line's existence, and Apple is putting out all the stops to fend off a challenge from its competitors.

However this has been disputed by recent suggestions that the iPhone 8 could retail around £560, with the 64GB version between £685 and £725. So, for customers that absolutely must have Touch ID and don't find all the other features that will be exclusive to the OLED iPhone (OLED display, full-face display, 3-D sensing, and so on) all that compelling, Apple will still offer a solid product set.
