McConnell made the announcement during a GOP luncheon on health care, after 10 GOP senators signed a letter addressed to the majority leader before the July 4 recess, urging him for more working days to fulfill their legislative promises.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he plans to release the new bill on Thursday.

"We've got important work that needs to continue", said Republican Senator Cory Gardner.

Members of the Senate Republican Conference could be briefed on the process Tuesday when they meet for a closed-door lunch.

Yet McConnell himself voiced doubts on the Senate bill's prospects last week, telling a luncheon in his home state of Kentucky that if Republicans fail to pass a repeal of Obamacare, they may need to work with Democrats to shore up private health insurance markets to keep them from collapsing.

But McConnell, a seasoned tactician, was forced to postpone a June vote on the bill when he realised he did not have the votes for passage, amid a revolt by some conservative and moderate Republicans.

Republicans hold 52 Senate seats and can't afford more than two of their own party voting no on the bill.

What features Graham's bill might include, and how it could win votes from Democrats who have been hostile to Republican efforts to repeal President Barack Obama's signature initiative, the Seneca Republican didn't say.

A revised Congressional Budget Office score, showing the costs and impact on coverage of the new version of the bill, is expected on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

With Republican senators failing to come to an agreement regarding several aspects of their Obamacare replacement plan, it's starting to look like bipartisanship may be the most realistic option. "I don't want to see us make the same mistake". "And I think right now we're just trying to find the sweet spot", Thune said. The roughly 14 million American families earning $200,000 or more would enjoy an annual net benefit of roughly $5,400 a year by 2026, when the law would be fully implemented, the study found.

Cruz's amendment has drawn support from conservative senators and groups, who say the amendment will help lower premiums.

If Senate Republicans fall short of approving the healthcare overhaul it would call into question not only Trump's ability to get other key parts of his agenda, including tax cuts and an increase in infrastructure spending, through Congress, but the Republican Party's capacity to govern effectively.
