  • Trump hotel data breach

The Trump Hotels' notice echoed Sabre's notice of data breach about the unauthorized access of Sabre Hospitality Solutions SynXis Central Reservation System. The notification mentioned that an unauthorized party had gained access to the data, dating back to August 10, 2016, and that the data was last accessed on March 9, 2017.

The properties affected include: Trump Central Park; Trump Chicago; Trump Doonberg; Trump Doral; Trump Las Vegas; Trump Panama; Trump Soho; Trump Toronto; Trump Turnberry; Trump Vancouver; Trump Waikiki; Trump DC; Trump Rio de Janeiro; and Albemarle Estate. Cardholder names, card numbers, expiration dates and potentially card security codes were accessed, and in some cases guest names, emails, phone numbers, addresses and other information were also accessed. Information such as Social Security numbers, passports, or driver's license number of guests was not accessed, Sabre said.

The hotel says it apologizes for the inconvenience and urges anyone who made reservations during those times to monitor their accounts for unauthorized activity and contact law enforcement if necessary.

Trump Hotels was notified that its customers were affected by the incident at the start of June.

Air Canada A320 almost lands on San Francisco taxiway
The Airbus A320 was cleared to land on runway 28R at SFO, but instead lined up with a taxiway that parallels the runway. The Air Canada flight from Toronto was supposed to land on Runway 28R but nearly landed on the adjacent taxiway.

The breach did not affect Trump Hotels' own systems, according to the notice. In late June, Google warned its own employees that their personal infromation might have been compromised after Google's corporate travel agent, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, revealed that it had been hit by the Sabre SynXis breach. "This incident occurred on the systems of Sabre Hospitality Solutions (Sabre), a service provider used by Trump Hotels".

Hotel chains have lagged behind many other businesses in protecting their networks, security analysts told the Washington Post. Cheaper hotels might prove a less attractive target, but really, wherever there's a large group of people's names and credit-card information, opportunistic criminals won't be too far behind. That mistake resulted in Trump Hotels paying $50,000 in penalties in September 2016 as it resulted in the payment card information for more than 70,000 guests being exposed.

There's a very interesting discussion going on in the United States right now about whether President Donald Trump and his family have been in touch with Russian government agents presumably tied to Russian hackers.
