Facebook Messenger is bringing in advertisements to its app

That means marketers everywhere will soon be able to purchase ad space, and users worldwide can expect to see them invading Messenger by the end of the year.

When users click or tap an ad in Messenger, they will either be transported to the advertiser's website, or taken to a chat with the company in question.

How the more than 1.2 billion monthly Messenger users react will depend on how Facebook implements them.

Stan Chudnovsky, head of product for Facebook Messenger, has confirmed that home screen ads will begin being tested around the world. The company claims that it received good results with ads during testing and it will not affect user experience. Australian department store David Jones used the offering, with its GM marketing and communications, Michiel Tops, saying the Messenger ads have been a "powerful addition" to its digital advertising campaigns. On the other hand, Sponsored Messages will enable businesses to re-engage with people who have started a conversation with them. On the Landing page, you will see tabs of "active", groups, or friends etc. and at the bottom of the Landing page, you'll have the tabs of home-screen, camera, games, calls and etc.

We've seen a big push of automated bots of all kinds in Facebook Messenger as of late, but now it looks like they're working on tapping into another revenue stream for the platform.

The latest ad platform allows markers to expand their campaigns to Messenger Ads. "Facebook has learned a lot over the years about how much advertising it can show people before irritating them".
