  • U.S. tests its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense anti-missile system in South Korea

The Missile Defense Agency announced Tuesday it successfully intercepted a target during a test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile defense system.

An Air Force C-17 fired the target over the Pacific Ocean and a THAAD system in Kodiak, Alaska detected and shot it down.

So far the system has a prefect 14 out of 14 record in tests since 2005.

THAAD interceptor seen here launched on its tenth test flight.

On 4 July, Pyongyang said it had carried out its first successful test of an inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM).

"THAAD continues to protect our citizens, deployed forces and allies from a real and growing threat", said MDA Director Lt. Gen. Sam Greaves.

THAAD incorporates "hit-to-kill" technology, where kinetic energy from the interceptor missile destroys the incoming target. But, hopefully, the Trump administration will eventually lean on diplomacy even more so that THAAD won't ever have to be an option in the first place.

This victory would be the beginning of greater achievements and efforts to maintain Iraq's territorial integrity, he said . IS fighters carried out forced displacement and summary killings, as well as using civilians as human shields.

In the wake of the ICBM test, the USA military and intelligence communities began to take a second look at the latest intelligence about North Korea's nuclear warhead program, according to two U.S. defense officials.

Lockheed's vice-president of Upper Tier Integrated Air and Missile Defense Systems, Richard McDaniel, called THAAD's performance on Tuesday "flawless".

"The successful demonstration of THAAD against an IRBM-range missile threat bolsters the country's defensive capability against developing missile threats in North Korea and other countries around the globe and contributes to the broader strategic deterrence architecture", the MDA statement said.

The escalation of the phenomenal nuclear program has led to a closer look at the capability of the missile defense system held by the U.S. and its allies.

The United States deployed two THAAD launchers in South Korea in early May and four more are pending deployment following an environmental assessment by the current South Korean government. Preliminary indications are that planned flight test objectives were achieved and the threat-representative, intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) target was successfully intercepted by the THAAD weapon system. Analysts note that Beijing's biggest concern is likely that THAAD's powerful radar could be used to snoop inside China and negate its own deterrent capabilities.

It is also possible Russian Federation legitimately thinks the missile was far short of an ICBM because their early warning system "stinks" as Lewis put it on Twitter.

With little communication or cooperation between the US and Russia about missile launches, Lewis warns that an attempt at intercepting a North Korean nuclear attack could spook the Russians so bad that they respond with a full-on nuclear attack that would leave much of the USA reduced to ashes.
