The Boston Celtics worked out a rather big trade early Friday morning, acquiring Marcus Morris from the Detroit Pistons for the ultra-improved Avery Bradley.

Despite agreeing to a four-year, $128 million deal with Gordon Hayward, the Boston Celtics still had work to do in order to create enough cap space to actually sign their star acquisition.

More deals could be upcoming for the Celtics as they go about setting their roster for the new season.

- At some point, Boston was going to have to decide how to allocate its resources to Thomas, Bradley and Smart in its backcourt, as all three will be free agents next summer (the first two unrestricted, Smart restricted).

Assuming the Celtics were paying Thomas, Bradley had some limitations that made him more hard to keep. Bradley was the first truly painful casualty as Ainge looks to return the Celtics to contender status.

Morris, 26, played two seasons for the Pistons.

Bradley was the longest-tenured member of the Celtics, bridging the gap from the era of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen that won the 2008 National Basketball Association title.

Morris started 79 games for the Pistons a year ago and averaged 14.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest, while shooting 33 percent from 3-point territory.

Avery Bradley's time with the Celtics is reportedly over. At best, they've just kicked their luxury-tax concerns down the road a year, since re-signing Bradley would push them deep into the tax in 2018-19. To sort it out, here are NBA Trade Grades for each side.

Morris averaged 14 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season.
