  • Why we need to put an asterisks on Joey Chestnut's hot dog eating dynasty

Chestnut, 33, is a -400 favorite to defeat top rival Matt "Megatoda" Stonie at the 101 annual event in the Brooklyn, New York neighborhood of Coney Island, according to the latest odds from Bovada.LV, an online sportsbook.

Cincotti, 24, is known as the Mutiny, a flawless nickname for the eater who remained competitive for most of the 10 minutes and was within striking distance of a shocking win.

On the women's side, Sudo is back to defend her title.

Miki Sudo easily outpaced all challengers to retain her dominance of Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, women's division.

Chestnut ate an incredible 70 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes previous year, which is the most ever in the history of the over four decade competition.

The driver, a 56-year-old Cambridge man employed by Metro Cab, remained on the scene and is cooperating with police. It is dotted with picnic tables and state police said the area is used by cab drivers while they take a break.

Chestnut bounced back strong past year to recapture the title by eating 70 hot dogs and buns, which set the new competition record and fell just 3.5 short of his own world record from qualifying. In 2016, Sudo won the competition with 38.5 dogs.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals had members giving away free vegan hot dogs outside the event, but a spokeswoman says the people arrested inside weren't with PETA. Since 2007, the only year Chestnut didn't win was in 2015 when he finished two behind Stonie's total of 60.

Now that Chestnut reclaimed the crown in 2016 he is ready to make it back-to-back wins once again and claim his 10th overall win at Coney Island.

Sudo's four titles is the most in the history of the women's competition. Sonya Thomas holds the record for women with 45 hots dogs eaten in 10 minutes in 2012. The men's field takes the stage at 12 p.m. It includes ESPN and ESPN2 on the "Sling Orange" channel package, which will allow for viewing today's contest in addition to content on many other channels for the next week.
