  • Venus Williams'devastated and heartbroken over fatal US car crash

He said the light was green when she entered the intersection. Witnesses say the Barson's vehicle, which T-boned Williams auto, could not avoid hitting Williams's SUV.

The occupants of the other auto were a couple, and the accident led to the death of the husband Jerome Barson, who was sitting in the passenger side.

Attorney Michael Steinger told ABC television Friday that Barson's family will file a wrongful death suit over the incident in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

According to police reports, William's vehicle was traveling at 8km/h when the accident occurred and there were no drugs, alcohol or texting involved.

Williams, 37, slowed in the middle of an intersection when her vehicle was hit by a auto driven by the man's 68-year-old wife, the report said.

On Friday night, Williams released a statement about the accident on Facebook, admitting that she is "heartbroken" over what happened.

The welterweight's most recent fight against Jesse Vargas was much more exciting and felt more like a classic Pacquiao victory. It's not going to be easy because Manny will be very fast using his lateral movement and skill to confuse Jeff.

"But according to authorities, "(Williams) is at fault for violating the right of way of (the Barsons)", the report said.

Her husband, the passenger in the vehicle, reportedly died after suffering from internal bleeding, a fractured spine and massive internal organ damage, Hollywood Life reported. Williams, who has a residence in Palm Beach Gardens, has not been cited or charged.

Venus Williams has broken her silence.

Williams told cops she ended up being stuck in the middle of the intersection because of other traffic.

Williams is now ranked 11th in the world and seeded 10th at the Wimbledon tournament, which she has won five times. "My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Jerome Barson and I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers", Williams wrote in the emotional post.

Williams's attorney, Malcolm Cunningham, did not directly address the accident report's finding that his client was at fault, but said the tennis star was not issued "any citations or traffic violations". Play at the All England Club begins Monday.
