  • Google News gets a much-needed redesign to cut down on clutter and confusion

Today, Google unveiled its new look to make it easier to understand the said web service. The user can now read news on a card-based interface, similar to the mobile app of the search engine.

The new design is for readability, says the post citing some of the features such as - thenew UI has a clean and uncluttered look, designed for comfortable reading and browsing. This design puts more focus on the name of the publisher and the labels of the article.

Sections like World and Business now feature icons in the dedicated left-hand navigation column. One can jump quickly to news he/she enjoys, whether it's standard sections like Sports or Entertainment, or those created and powered by the person's queries, such as "FIFA World Cup" or "Bollywood". This is where you'll search for specific news items, but the search bar is being joined by three new tabs: Headlines, Local, and For You. In "For You", you can pinpoint niche interests and create your own mini news feed, whether it's following your favorite team, or satisfying your inner geek with news on cool gadgets and gizmos. "Users are not able to connect with the journalism that they come to Google News to see".

IN has been focused on trying to complete a deal with Boston for George, league sources told The Vertical . Boston fans cheered the All-Star forward during a January game against the Utah Jazz.

Paka argues that Google's users are already familiar with the card interface, so this shouldn't be too much of a leap for most users. The first view offers a quick glance into a story. The section can be accessed from the story card, and lets users sort by relevance or date, see top videos, and browse top news topics in the "Related" block. These changes are all mostly centered on the desktop version. "From there you can go deeper and read articles with different points of view which are frequently labeled with helpful tags", Paka said in the blog.

That said, Google says "this feature is now available in the US only", but presumably Google will roll it out to other Google News users around the world. You can modify the stories that you would want to see in the "For You" section. All of the new tools Google added in recent years, including real-time coverage, fact checks and support for videos, remain in place. This update is beginning to rollout and will be available globally in the coming days. "While 'Local, ' shows mainly shows stories from where user is now located, the 'For You" tab lets users create a their own mini news feed with topics they're interested in.
