  • Son of former Braves player on life support after getting hit in the face by a baseball

Jason Lockhart, 15, the son of Keith Lockhart, was hit in the face with a baseball while at a tournament in Lexington, SC on June 17, according to Lexington High School's baseball coach Brian Hucks.

In what was a weird scenario, Jackson Lockhart was hit in the face while crossing home plate as the catcher was attempting to throw the ball back to the pitcher during a tournament game in SC on June 17, according to a FOX report in Atlanta. He was running home when the opposing team's catcher tried to throw it to the pitcher to tag him out and instead hit Lockhart in the face with the ball.

After recovering on Sunday, Jason's nose began bleeding while at the doctor's office on Monday. "Jason was meant to return to surgery on Monday to have his nose repacked, but it was rescheduled because, "[his] body [was] responding a bit slower than anticipated", said Sydney. Any slight movement would cause bleeding that would not stop, resulting in doctors putting Lockhart on life support and sedating him to a "paralytic level" according to 11Alive News so as to keep him from moving. A CT scan showed a tear inside his nose from the impact, and doctor's diagnosed it as a lacerated artery. "If the bleeding continues they will have to take him to the operating room once more to try to find the source of the bleeding".

Jason underwent surgery to fix the fracture in his nose, but the bleeding persisted. They determined all bleeding was, in fact, in the nose and not coming from his brain. The prayers and support that everyone has given to us is overwhelming and we are truly touched.

Jason's sister, Sydney, has been posting updates on her brother's condition since the accident on Facebook.

She added that five surgeries in nine days "is a lot for anybody" and thanked supporters on behalf of the family. Because it persisted, he was placed "into a paralytic state through meds and machines", the family wrote Friday in a series of posts on Sydney's Facebook page that describe the scary details of an injury that medical personnel have struggled to fix.

Others have come and sent prayers to Jason and the Lockhart family.

Lockhart's father, Keith, played six seasons with the Braves and is now a scout with the Chicago Cubs.
