Trump acknowledges for first time he's under investigation

There is no evidence against the officials of any particular involvement with Trump's campaign. Pence's office confirmed he had retained Richard Cullen, a former Virginia attorney general and USA attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to assist "in responding to inquiries" from Mueller.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats has met with the Senate Intelligence Committee for more than three hours in a closed session as part of the panel's probe into Russian interference in US elections. He also discussed his agency's budget.

Russian Federation has denied interfering in last year's presidential elections, as has the White House.

The panel announced Thursday that Johnson will testify June 21.

Meanwhile, the President himself continues to attack the ongoing investigations into Russian meddling.

"His concern was, because we're looking at the potential - again, that's the subject of the investigation - coordination between the campaign and Russian Federation, because it was President Trump - President-elect Trump's campaign, this person's view was, inevitably, his behavior, his conduct will fall within the scope of that work", Comey said.

The Trump administration asserted that Kushner suggested the back channel so that former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn could coordinate with Russian Federation to form a strategy for the Syrian Civil War.

In a second tweet, Trump touted his "powerful" presence on social media, despite widespread criticism that his recurring rants on Twitter and other online media have only compounded his legal and political problems.

He said "we have never said we won't raise some taxes", but added that overall the government wanted to keep them low. Mr Hammond said his role in the campaign had not been the "one I would have liked it to be".

Lawyer and CNN host Michael Smerconish on Friday said the obstruction of justice probe into President Donald Trump "absolutely is a witch hunt", and that the president "deserves better than this".

He reiterated tweets from Thursday morning about the investigation. "#MAGA" - the acronym referring to his campaign slogan, Make America Great Again.

Earlier on Thursday, Mr Trump tweeted that a new report suggesting that special counsel Robert Mueller may investigate him for possible obstruction of justice after he sacked Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey is a "phony story".

Mueller is also investigating Trump for obstruction of justice, the Post reported Wednesday.

"After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof", Trump tweeted out, before concluding with his trademark "Sad!"

It was unclear if Trump was referencing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Rosenstein in a memo to Trump raised concerns over FBI Director James Comey.

While President Trump denied all the allegations levied on him, Comey revealed that the documented memos were a testament to his claims, a portion of which was published by the The New York Times, with the hope of a new counsel being appointed.
