Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a BJP Parliamentary Party will meet on Monday to discuss the party's Presidential candidate with no name yet coming up strongly even after a round of parleys with the opposition, media reports said.

The Board formed a three-man panel - comprising senior ministers Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley - to select their presidential nominee.

Union Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu met Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and held discussions over the Presidential election.

It is expected that the BJP at Monday's meeting will name the candidate of its choice before the party top brass goes back to the opposition for a consensus. "He told me that his stand is clear and whatever Prime Minister Narendra Modi decides will be acceptable to us", he added.

Multiple sources have told HT that former diplomat Gopalkrishna Gandhi could be the potential opposition candidate, with Left parties pushing for Mahatma Gandhi's grandson for the country's highest post. BJP leaders are meeting leaders of various political parties to reach a consensus on presidential nominee.

The presidential poll, which is scheduled for 17 July, will conclude on 20 July when the counting of the votes begins.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued the notification in this regard and the process of the nomination has started that will continue till June 28.
