Wind howling as final round at Erin Hills gets under way

He also extends the streak of first-time major winners to seven.

The world number 50 headed to the clubhouse on 12 under, one ahead of Thomas, Brooks Koepka and England's Tommy Fleetwood.

"This is my first time in contention in a major, so whatever happens I'll be doing my best and seeing how well I can finish".

Brooks Koepka ran off birdies at Nos. Without a card on any tour when Koepka got out of Florida State, he filled his passport with stamps from the most unlikely outposts in golf while playing the minor leagues on the European Tour - Kazakhstan and Kenya, Portugal and India and throughout Europe.

Hideki Matsuyama is second at 12 under. Harman was 13 under until those back-to-back bogeys derailed him.

Matsuyama has two holes left, compared to six for Koepka and seven for Harman.

However, the 26-year-old from Southport then bogeyed the sixth after hitting a poor chip across the green and dropped another shot on the eighth after firing his approach over the green.

Rickie Fowler, on the verge of being left behind, rallied with three straight birdies and shot 68.

The race for low amateur at the U.S. Open is down to Cameron Champ's last two holes.

Satoshi Kodaira was tied for 35th place at 1-under 215 and Yusaku Miyazato shared 51st at 2-over 218. Thomas capped off his record day on the 667-yard 18th hole at Erin Hills with the prettiest 3-wood he ever hit, stopping 8 feet away on a green where some players struggled to land a wedge.

Fresh off his record-breaking third round, Justin Thomas is tumbling down the leaderboard at the U.S. Open.

It was a much different scene than Saturday, when Thomas matched a major record with a 63.

Trump investigated for obstruction of justice
Rosenstein could eventually be questioned by Mueller about his memo on Comey and what motivated Trump to ask him to write it. Snowden has been living in Russian Federation since 2013 when it gave him asylum, resisting US pressure to extradite him.

"To be honest with you, it really was the putt, the par save on 13", Koepka said. It's more in line with what Johnny Miller thinks of the U.S Open, but the important thing to remember is that Johnny Miller is wrong. Fowler started one shot out of the lead at the Masters this year and shot 76. Koepka rolled in 6-, 10- and 17-footers for birdies on 14, 15 and 16 to seal this one. Then we made the turn and I knew I had to make a couple of birdies, but I didn't play well enough.

Three pars later, it was all over.

Jordan Spieth has finished his U.S. Open on a high note. Koepka honestly cruised on Sunday at Erin Hills. In a flash, Harman had gone from a share of the lead to four back (he birdied 14 in the meantime). Erin Hills also features some of the densest roughs you will find, but, golfers don't have to worry about that during the tournament.

The U.S. Open didn't seem to faze him, and he delivered a variety of big shots that led to his sensational finish. It featured a silhouette of Palmer in mid-stride, tossing his visor in the air.

What truly stands out at Erin Hills is the site from the eighteenth tee, affectionately called, "Holy Hill". But he made huge putts all day Sunday, too.

Whoever emerged victorious would definitely have earned it given the conditions which were reminiscent of the final round of the 1992 US Open at Pebble Beach.

Kite shot even-par 72 in gusty winds in 1992 at Pebble Beach, winning by two strokes over Jeff Sluman.

Of the five other players who shot a 63 in the third round at a major, none went on to win.

Fowler gave himself a break: "You kind of have to say, 'Hey, it's a major, I played well this week'".

Brian Harman had the lead at 12 under coming into the day.

Fleetwood began the day in a tie for second and made an encouraging start with a birdie from eight feet on the second.

Players are on the course for the final round of the U.S. Open in blustery conditions at Erin Hills.
