  • Indonesia Open: HS Prannoy's fight ends after semi-final loss to Kazumasa Sakai

Indian shuttler H.S. Prannoy continued his giant-killing spree to stun World and Olympic Champion Chen Long of China to enter the semi-final of the Indonesia Super Series Premier along with Kidambi Srikanth here yesterday. Srikanth will next face Japanese qualifier Kazumasa Sakai in the finals tomorrow.

The 27-year-old Japanese will now face the victor of the match between Srikanth and World no. 1 Son Wan Ho in the final.

Srikanth had a 2-4 head-to-head record against Son, having lost to the Korean four times in the last four meetings but all that didnt matter today as he survived a battle of attrition at the Jakarta Convention Centre. "I wasn't good in the second half", he said. He kept his composure to win the game easily. Srikanth made it 13-all, but Son, with some telling bodyline smashes managed an 18-14 lead. Srikanth's all-out aggression resulted in a few errors but Son's failure to put a couple of smashes away meant that Srikanth led 11-10 at the changeover. The duo moved neck-and-neck till 19-19.

I had 4-5 match points.

After that, Srikanths smash touched the net chord and went over as he moved to 19-13. However, he was not to be denied.

The Korean then went along in the second half of the game as he dominated Srikanth, and eventually closed the game 21-14.

Prannoy, on the other hand, will have himself to blame for his semifinal loss.

The Japanese capitalised on it to produce a strong third game and never gave the Indian much chance.

In the third game, Sakai moved to a 6-4 lead early on and held on to the lead all through the game to emerge victor.
