The Senate Intelligence Committee will not investigate whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice as part of its probe into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election, CNN reported.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller likely "will be archiving these various Twitter rants as supplemental evidence" for the obstruction investigation, Moss, who also is deputy executive director of the James Madison Project, told VOA.

Sessions insisted he stepped aside from the Russian Federation investigation because he was a principal adviser to the Trump campaign, not because he did something wrong or was a subject of the probe.

Several news reports said Mueller plans to interview key USA national security officials about Trump's comments seeking an end to the investigation of contacts his first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, had with Russia's ambassador to Washington, Sergey Kislyak.

The special counsel is following two major lines of investigation, said one US official familiar with the rough outlines of Mueller's probe who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Sessions contradicted Comey, who last week told the intelligence panel that after an encounter with Trump in which he said Trump pressured him to back off an investigation into the former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, Comey "implored" Sessions to make sure he was never left alone with the president again - but that Sessions didn't respond.

In addition, Feinstein has asked Grassley to call Attorney General Jeff Sessions and several other Trump administration officials to testify.

Trump is an avid user of Twitter, with over 32 million followers on his personal account and more than 18 million people on the official presidential account.

The Justice Department subsequently released decades-old memos from its Office of Legal Counsel that it said supported Sessions' position.

She said Trump has "embarked on an effort to undermine anyone with the ability to bring any misdeeds to light" and the Senate shouldn't let that happen.

In another tweet earlier Friday, Trump writes, "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof".

'Americans should exercise caution before accepting as true any stories attributed to anonymous "officials", particularly when they do not identify the country - let alone the branch or agency of government - with which the alleged sources supposedly are affiliated, ' the unusual statement read. Pence's office confirmed he had retained Richard Cullen, a former Virginia attorney general and USA attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to assist "in responding to inquiries" from Mueller.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Mueller has also asked the NSA to provide his investigators with any notes or documents relating to interactions between the agency and the White House in connection with the Russian Federation investigation.

In a second tweet, Trump said, "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

Earlier Thursday, Trump tweeted that a new report suggesting that special counsel Robert Mueller may investigate him for possible obstruction of justice after he fired FBI Director James Comey is a "phony story".

Those questions were prompted after a friend of President Donald Trump said the White House was considering firing Mueller.

In an address to the country, Trump struck a notably less partisan tone in response to his first major domestic crisis.

Mueller is also investigating Trump for obstruction of justice, the Post reported Wednesday.

Mr Comey testified under oath that Mr Trump had told him during a private meeting: "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go". Mr. Trump's lawyer has accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of leaking material.
