It said the actress, who found enduring fame as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films, had taken several drugs prior to her death, but investigators could not determine whether they contributed to it. The official cause of death is "sleep apnea" and "other factors".

"The manner of death has been ruled undetermined", the report concluded. Additionally, he told the site, "I am not shocked that part of her health was affected by drugs", noting prescriptions she took to treat her mental health.

Cosby jury deliberating, no new questions
Bill Cosby leaves the Montgomery County Courthouse during his sexual assault trial, Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in Norristown, Pa. In those interviews, Cosby admitted to sexual contact with Constand and said they had previously had a romantic encounter.

Todd Fisher, Carrie Fisher's brother, confirmed his mother's death to Variety and told the magazine: "She wanted to be with Carrie". She ultimately died of it. "She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases", Ms Lourd said.

Fisher had a heart attack December 23 while on a flight from London to Los Angeles, and died several days after. Shame and those social stigmas are the enemies of progress to solutions and ultimately a cure. She was rumored to have relapsed shortly before her death, though that remains to be determined.

She also suffered from "drug use" and atherosclerotic heart disease, a condition in which fats, cholesterol and other substances build up on the artery walls, the statement said.

Fisher explored her issues with addiction in her 1987 bestselling, semi-autobiographical novel, Postcards from the Edge, which was later turned into a movie starring Meryl Streep. "They contained me", she said.
