British Airways doesn't blame Indian firm for flight disruption

  • BA says most flights running angry passengers face delays

"The root cause was a power supply issue that affected a number of our systems", she said. So far on Monday, 13 short-haul flights at Heathrow, Europe's busiest, have been cancelled.

Captain Stephen Wearing told The Telegraph that the scene that greeted him at Heathrow was "the worst chaos I've ever seen".

Travellers spent the night sleeping on terminal floors on Saturday after BA cancelled all flights leaving the London hubs, while disruption continued into Sunday with dozens more services from Heathrow axed.

"We continue to urge customers due to fly from Heathrow tomorrow to check on ba.com that they have a confirmed booking and that their flight is operating before setting off for the airport".

An IT systems failure forced BA to scrap nearly 600 flights in and out of Heathrow and Gatwick airports in London, leaving passengers stranded in the British capital and around the world.

It also offered a full refund or the opportunity to rebook a flight before the end of November if a passenger with a flight on Monday or Tuesday chose not to fly. Many of the Irish airline's customers switch to long-haul services offered by BA from Heathrow. "It's been a awful, bad day".

More flights were scrapped on Sunday and long delays and some cancellations continued well into Monday.

While not that frequent, when airline outages do happen, the effects are widespread, high-profile and can hit travelers across the globe.

However, the lack of strong wage inflation is also another sign for the doves that the Fed should not be eager to raise rates. Even after their recent skid, technology companies have done much better than the rest of the market in 2017.

In August 2016, Delta planes around the world were grounded when an electrical component failed and led to a shutdown of the transformer that provides power to the airline's data center.

A one day outage costs the company about £30 million ($39 million) in lost revenue alone, said Stephen Furlong, analyst at Davy Research.

Short flights either were cancelled or are being undertaken with delays from the airport west of the British capital, the firm said.

However, no one from BA has been available to answer the many questions the media had over the crash of the BA system and the airline did not explain why a backup system had not been in place.

British Airways was battling its third day of disruption on Monday after a global computer system failure stranded thousands of passengers over a holiday weekend and turned into a public relations disaster.

British Airways has suffered multiple problems in recent months with its computer system.

A British Airways spokesperson told ABC News on Monday, "The power supply issue was at one of our United Kingdom data centers local to the Heathrow area".
