McCain Says His Confusing Questions Resulted From Tiredness

  • Comey 'confused' by order to refer to Clinton email probe as a 'matter'

John McCain's apparently MLB-induced (and wackadoodle) line of questioning in former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey's Senate hearing earlier in the day.

Well, of course. The Clinton email investigation ended more than 11 months ago, while the Russian Federation investigation continues. Maybe going forward I shouldn't stay up late watching the Diamondbacks night games.

After the 80-year-old McCain noticed that many on the internet were left questioning what, exactly, he was trying to get out of Comey, the Arizona senator explained himself on Twitter and offered a reason for why he was so misunderstood by many: He was up late watching an Arizona Diamondbacks game.

Comey testified at the Senate intelligence committee on the government's investigation into Russian meddling in the US election and his firing by President Donald Trump.

The senator started his questioning of Comey by walking through the timeline of the FBI's investigation of Hillary Clinton's emails, which Comey confirmed was closed in July, and then asked how the FBI could have concluded that matter while the investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election was ongoing.

"I get the sense from Twitter that my line of questioning today went over people's heads", the Arizona senator said in a statement on his website.

Julian Edelman, Patriots reportedly agree to multi-year contract extension
ESPN's Adam Schefter would later report that the Patriots had come to a multi-year deal with Edelman by Thursday afternoon. Edelman has taken some vicious hits over the years and battled through numerous injuries - some more severe than others.

That's a relatively straightforward bit of politicking, but here's what that question sounded like in real-time, translated into McCain's personal patois of maverick-ese: "You're going to have to help me out here".

"Both President Trump and former candidate Clinton are involved in the investigation yet one of them there's going to be no charges and the other one the investigation continues", McCain said.

"In an ultimately conclusive way that was the thing that capped it for me that I had to do something separately to protect the credibility of the investigation, which meant both the FBI and the Justice Department", Comey said in his hearing.

McCain says his point was to find out if Comey believes his interactions with Trump rise to the level of obstruction of justice.

But before that statement, many people were as confused as Comey.

Comey pointed out that the Clinton investigation concerned her use of a private email server. While I missed an opportunity in today's hearing, I still believe this question is important, and I intend to submit it in writing to Mr. Comey for the record.
