Toyota backs company building flying auto

Japanese automaker Toyota and its group companies will invest in a project to develop a flying vehicle. Its members, numbering 30 over give their time voluntarily to work on the project, the Nikkei Asian Review said.

The project is led by a group of highly talented individuals that call themselves Cartivator.

Cartivator plans on working on various aspects of the flying auto, till 2018 arrives.

A startup known as Cartivator is hoping to develop the flying automobiles and has just received a boost after it was backed by automobile giants Toyota.

The goal is to create a auto that can hover like a drone about ten feet off the ground and travel at a flight speed of ~62 miles per hour.

The firm is using drone technology to make flying cars a reality and says the finished product will have three wheels and four rotors, and a projected top flight speed of 62 miles per hour.

The 9.5-foot by 4.3-foot vehicle seats its driver/pilot in a prone position, as if in a formula auto.
