  • A crash involving an overturned bus shut down I-95 near Cecil County Monday morning. Fire and emergency crews are on the scene. A Medivac is en route

A student and a teacher are critically injured after a charter bus carrying 26 eighth-graders overturned on Interstate 95 north of Baltimore, Maryland, Monday morning, causing massive traffic delays. He said numerous patients suffered muscle strains and contusions.

A student and teacher were rushed to area trauma centers. Emergency crews from surrounding jurisdictions - including from Aberdeen and Level fire companies, as well as from Cecil County - were providing assistance to the Havre de Grace-based volunteer fire company and the Havre de Grace Ambulance Corps. "The bus then traveled off the righthand side of Interstate 95, struck an embankment, traveled down that embankment, struck a tree, snapping that tree in half, and then turning over on to its left side".

Police said a auto was trying to pass the bus when it lost control, crossed over three traffic lanes and clipped the front of the bus. Crash investigators have consulted with the Harford County state's attorney's office, who said charges would be withheld for now. In addition, Philadelphia police officers taking buses to Washington, D.C., spotted the crash and stopped to help, Fox 45 added.

A later report said the students were from the C.W. Henry School in West Mount Airy.

"Werner Coach wishes to express its sorrow and sympathy to those impacted by this accident".

Southbound I-95 between exits 89 and 93 are closed, and are expected to remain closed for at least three hours for investigation and cleanup.
