He also warned North Korea not to test his resolve.

North Korea has been testing missiles for weeks, and the status of their nuclear weapons development program has been a source of questions and concern for years. Hawaii is roughly 7,000 km from North Korea.

"To that end, the Security Council demanded the Democratic People's Republic of Korea conduct no further nuclear and ballistic missile tests", the council said, adding that it was ready to impose further sanctions on the country.

That's higher and closer to Russian Federation than other North Korean tests, according to U.S. officials.

United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Monday that Guterres had called on North Korea to fully comply with its worldwide obligations "and return to the path of denuclearization".

More missile tests were forewarned "until the US and its vassal forces make a proper choice with reason".

David Wright, co-director of the Washington, D.C. -based Union of Concerned Scientists, said that if confirmed, the data would mean the missile launched Sunday had a maximum range of almost 2,800 miles.

The Security Council is scheduled to hold closed-door consultations on the missile test on Tuesday.

"This weapons program that they have is unlawful and it presents a clear, grave threat to U.S. national security".

Swedish U.N. Ambassador Olof Skoog said the council needs a firm, united response but "we also feel there needs to be openness for a conversation for dialogue".

Pressure mounts on David Moyes after latest defeat to Swansea — Sunderland
But this was the situation two weeks ago and it was always going to be hard what reaction to give the supporters after the game. Sunderland felt they should have had a penalty when Sebastian Larsson's free-kick appeared to be blocked by Sigurdsson's hand.

On Sunday, the North successfully test-fired a new intermediate-range ballistic missile.

North Korea has boasted of a successful weekend launch of a new type of "medium long-range" ballistic rocket that can carry a heavy nuclear warhead.

Analysts said the UN Security Council would likely discuss new sanctions, with China possibly playing a role in their formation.

The 38 North analysis points out that the distance flown by the missile means it could strike a US military base at Guam.

Faso, R-Kinderhook, said the administration is appropriately applying diplomatic, economic and, to a lesser extent, military pressure on North Korea.

Earlier this month, Pyongyang accused the two intelligence services of a failed plot to assassinate Kim with a biochemical bomb at a military parade in Pyongyang.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told reporters the launch was "absolutely unacceptable" and that Japan would respond resolutely.

The White House reacted by calling for stronger sanctions from other countries around the world.

Beijing has cited United Nations resolutions for all of its measures against North Korea. Yet 38 North also says new assessments of what North Korea's missile program can do are now necessary. The missile fell in the Sea of Japan after flying some 500 miles.

"This is an advanced missile, if their claims are true".

The rocket, "newly designed in a Korean-style", flew 787 kilometers (490 miles) and reached a maximum altitude of 2,111 kilometers (1,310 miles), the North said, and "verified the homing feature of the warhead under the worst re-entry situation and accurate performance of detonation system".
