No 'clean slate' between the US and Russia - Tillerson

During an interview with Trump Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Meet The Press host Chuck Todd confronted Tillerson directly about the Trump administration's refusal to talk to Russian Federation about their interference in the 2016 election, and it was what Tillerson didn't say that spoke volumes about Trump's guilt.

"We're starting with the slate we have, and all the problems that are on that slate", he said.

"The relationship with Russian Federation, as he has described, and I have described as well, is, I think, at an all-time low point since the end of the Cold War, with a very low level of trust".

"I have a great relationship with the President", he said.

Tillerson said he's unconcerned about speculation (from moonbats like Todd) that he may not be able to remain independent from Trump if he had to take a stance that undermined the president.

The State Department added: "Sanctions on Russian Federation will remain in place until Moscow reverses the actions that triggered them".

Asked about United States intelligence reports that Russia meddled in last year's U.S. presidential election campaign, Tillerson said, "I don't think there's any question that the Russians were playing around in our electoral processes". "I think it's in the interest of the American people, it's in the interest of Russian Federation, the rest of the world, that we do something to see if we can not improve the relationship between the two greatest nuclear powers in the world".

The Russian envoy's presence at the meeting was not disclosed by the White House, but Russia's state-sponsored news agency, Tass, released photos of the encounter, which was closed to US journalists. He downplayed the prospect of a Russian Federation "reset"-saying the relationship between the USA and Russian Federation is at an "all-time low point since the end of the Cold War, with a very low level of trust".

Tillerson said President Trump believes it is important to "reengage" Russian Federation, acknowledging that the two countries have problems to address. "We don't dismiss any of them".

"Whether we can improve it or not remains to be seen. We don't give anyone a free pass on any of them", Tillerson added. "It's going to take some time".

The Secretary of State noted that addressing Russian interference in the recent USA election is one of the many important issues that will have to be addressed before the relationship improves. He added that the impact of that meddling was "inconclusive".
