  • Palestinian man shot and killed after stabbing Israeli police officer

Sumari said the officer was moderately injured in the attack.

A Jordanian man stabbed and wounded an Israeli officer in annexed east Jerusalem on Saturday before being shot dead, police said.

Police spokeswoman Luba Simri said the officer was walking down a street when he was attacked by a 57-year-old Jordanian who had arrived in Israel for a visit a few days earlier. "Each of them was personal or psychological reasons", - said the press service of the police.

Jordanian government spokesman Mohammad al Momani disputed the Israeli account of the incident, which he described as an "ugly crime".

"It's time for Jordan to stop playing this double game", the prime minister's office said in a statement.

Saba Nidal Obaid, 20, was shot in the stomach near the village of Nabi Saleh, north of Ramallah, during a protest in support of the 1,500 Palestinians on hunger strike across Israeli prisons. Just like Israel condemns terrorist attacks in Jordan, Jordan must condemn terrorist attacks in Israel.

According to Ma'an documentation, the Palestinian was the 22nd to have been killed by Israelis since the beginning of the year.

Israel has blamed the violence on incitement by Palestinian political and religious leaders compounded on social media sites.

The attacker has yet to be publicly identified.

The Palestinians want East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, territories that Israel captured in the 1967 war, for a future state. Palestinians say it stems from anger over decades of Israeli rule.
