  • The outing was initially set to begin around 7:00

NASA Astronaut Jack Fischer appears to play air guitar during the International Space Station's 200th spacewalk.

First, Whitson installed a connector on the $2 billion Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer to help engineers analyze the sensitive particle detector for future cooling-system repairs. The spacewalk was Whitson's ninth, a US record for most spacewalks by a female astronaut.

The sharing of the equipment will affect their battery power, and the spacewalk was now expected to last about four hours.

The problem involved "a small water leak" in a service and cooling umbilical (SCU) that charges up Fischer's spacesuit, so Whitson and Fischer had to share one SCU.

The start of the spacewalk, originally slated to last 6.5 hours, was delayed more than an hour while the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration revamped plans due to the leak, which developed as Fischer´s suit was being prepared.

This will be the 200th spacewalk for the construction and maintenance of the orbiting outpost.

Tillerson, Lavrov to meet to discuss Syria, Ukraine
His previous visit to Washington took place in 2013, while the previous visit of a Russian President to the USA was held in 2010. Despite the lack of clarity, the possibility of a meeting between Trump and Lavrov would in itself be a sign of some progress.

NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson is seen during a spacewalk during Expedition 50 aboard the International Space Station. Find us on Facebook too! The one being worked on today, PMA-3, is now installed on the Harmony module, where it will be used to host a new docking port for commercial crewed spacecraft arriving at the ISS. He also writes a blog, called Orbital Velocity, about the space station.

It was the first spacewalk for Fischer, who arrived at the station less than a month ago.

With landing September 3, Whitson's total time in space over three missions will stand at 666 days, moving her up to eighth in the world, just behind Yurchikhin at No. 7 with 673 days in orbit and six other cosmonauts.

The spacewalk is the ninth of Whitson's career. "It's a huge honor to work with all of you".

The first piece of the International Space Station - a Russian module - was launched in 1998, and the first spacewalk ever conducted at the station took place in December that year. "It's humbling to be a part of their legacy".
