The richest hip-hop artists of 2017 have been revealed, although you may be surprised about who's at number one considering he hasn't released a studio album proper since 2010.

The rapper needs just $200 million to become a billionaire and if he continues at the pace he's going, he'll probably get there in less than five years.

The financial news publication estimates his net worth to be $820 million making it his seventh year in a row at the top of the list. Both moguls augment their entertainment enterprises with lucrative alcohol deals, with Diddy doing well off his deal with Ciroc and Jay Z earning money from champagne brand Armand de Brignac.

Jay Z, who was third on the list a year ago, came in a close second, with $810 million.

The list began in 2007 with Jay Z topping the poll with $34 million (£26.3m).

Jay Z came a close second this year at $810 million, followed by Dr. Dre at $740 million, both with ties to major music streaming services.

Forbes attributed most of his earnings from his share of the sale of his Beats Electronics company to Apple for $3 billion in 2014.

Drake is fifth with $90 million.
