Chobani yogurt company sues right-wing radio host Alex Jones

  • Greek yogurt giant Chobani is suing right-wing radio host Alex Jones accusing the conspiracy theorist of publishing false information about the company

At first, headlines accused Chobani of "choking the United States with Muslims", but matters got worse when Infowars-which is run by the outlandish and controversial Alex Jones-published a blog post falsely linking the yogurt company to a local police investigation in which three underaged boys were charged with assaulting a five-year-old girl in a Twin Falls apartment complex, according to the Idaho Statesman.

Chobani's lawsuit also takes issue with the headline of the video, "Idaho Yogurt Maker Caught Important Migrant Rapists", since Infowars did not mention or prove that statement in the report.

"The defendants' conduct in this matter was extreme, outrageous and warrants punitive damages", Chobani's lawsuit reads.

Twin Falls, Idaho, has been a safe harbor for thousands of worldwide refugees in the last 30 years, and the town welcomes about 300 refugees per year, according to Twin Falls Mayor Shawn Barigar.

"The defendants defamatory statements were created to cause — and did in fact cause — customers to call for a boycott of Chobani's products", the lawsuit stated.

When Hoffman asked Steven Hagey, a family therapist, about the comment, Judge Orlinda Naranjo sustained an objection by Alex Jones' attorneys, who argued that Naranjo had said she wanted to keep Infowars out of the trial.

The lawsuit alleges that the Twitter account is controlled by InfoWars and that the video was retweeted by Jones himself.

Trump Signs Executive Actions on Tax Rules, Dodd-Frank Powers
He would not provide details of the plan, saying only that the tax cuts will be " bigger I believe than any tax cut ever ". Reports had indicated that the plan would include a carbon tax - an idea scorned by Republicans but favored by Democrats.

Chobani also wants InfoWars to acknowledge its inaccuracies.

The case is sealed, so details of the assault are not public, but three boys age 14, 10 and 7 all pleaded guilty to felonies earlier this month. In addition, Chobani said InfoWars' violated the Idaho Consumer Protection Act by knowingly misrepresenting facts.

"It should be tried in here", said Naranjo, while denying the third request in as many days for a mistrial by Alex Jones' attorneys.

McAdoo said that "a lot of people said" that Chobani's manufacturing plant (and other local businesses) were linked to the US refugee resettlement program in Twin Falls.

Alex Jones is already receiving bad press from his child custody case, and now he is on the receiving end of a lawsuit that could even further embarrass the right-wing provocateur.

Jones gained notoriety after claiming that the USA government planned the 9/11 attacks and faked the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in CT, where 26 students and educators died in 2012.
