Trump lets states block some Planned Parenthood money

Federal law prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding abortions and Planned Parenthood says 3% of the services it provides are abortions.

In reality, federally defunding Planned Parenthood - as the GOP proposed to do in their failed health care bill - actually means preventing people who rely on it from accessing health care.

President Donald Trump's reversal of the Obama administration's position on federal funding for family planning shows why a new Maryland law is so important, said Karen Nelson, Maryland Planned Parenthood's president and CEO. Planned Parenthood Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens said on Thursday that the law would hinder access to health care.

The bill, signed without the usual pomp and circumstance of media cameras, reverses an Obama-era rule barring states from pulling money from clinics that perform abortions but also provide other family planning and medical services, CNN reported.

"We don't want to commit taxpayer dollars to effectively funding something that they think is morally unconscionable", House Speaker Paul Ryan said on CNN in January. However, they hope to achieve much more with this president and a Republican Congress.

Southwest Florida could see a big cut in funds to Planned Parenthood.

According to Press Association analysis, the United States probably has the facilities to host a tournament by itself tomorrow. Montreal's Olympic Stadium (56,000) and Toronto's Rogers Centre (53,000) are less ideal for soccer in their current states.

Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America posted a photo on Instagram from the Oval Office with the president, along with Susan B. Anthony List head Marjorie Dannenfelser and Rep. Diane Black, a vocally anti-choice Republican from Tennessee.

"Whether our elected leaders take action publicly or privately to restrict women's health care and attack their reproductive rights, it is unacceptable and risky", said Karen Middleton, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado. It squeaked through the Senate on March 30, when Vice President Mike Pence rushed to cast a tie-breaking vote.

And because the vote took place under the Congressional Review Act, which allows regulations to be overturned by a simple majority, there was no chance for dissenting lawmakers to filibuster.

It was a no for Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards.

Under President Obama, Title X "family-planning grants" to states could not be denied to organizations on the basis of whether or not they performed abortions. It supports counseling for contraception, prenatal care and other health services for low-income women.
