Ailing Josh Donaldson not starting in Blue Jays' home opener

Aaron Sanchez was luxuriating in a big, comfy chair at a swanky downtown Toronto sports bar on Monday morning, intently staring at a large flat-screen television while expertly operating a video-game controller.

But for a team looking to make a third consecutive trip to the post-season, manager John Gibbons acknowledged that without a turnaround soon, the Jays could be left "chasing" the season, a tough task in division as stout as the AL East.

Erasmo Ramirez (1-0) got the win, pitching 1 2/3 shutout innings.

"We taxed the bullpen pretty good", Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Sunday. He was the AL ERA leader previous year. And we're doing our best to try and figure it out.

Right-handed reliever Damien Magnifico, also with Colorado Springs, was designated for assignment to create space for Goforth on the 40-man roster. He opened the season on the disabled list with neck spasms.

BC Liberals stand pat with platform
New Democrats reportedly planning to release their housing platform on Thursday - the issue may be the Opposition's to lose on. It touted previous promises including eliminating unpopular medical services premiums over the long term.

The only real blips have come from J.P. Howell, now on the 10-day DL after shoulder soreness.

It was a welcome off day for the struggling Blue Jays, who hope to bounce back from a tepid road start when they welcome the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday night to Rogers Centre for their home opener. He said after the game he felt that he could be ready for Tuesday.

Donaldson missed a large portion of spring training with a calf injury.

So the Jays will be anxious to grab some of that back on Tuesday, with J.A. Happ, the Jays 20-game victor from a year ago facing Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta amid the bunting and a sellout crowd under the roof. Cobb, who allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings in a 4-1 win over NY on Wednesday night, will try to become the first pitcher to beat the Yankees twice within New York's first seven games of a season since Tampa Bay's Victor Zambrano in 2004. Happ was 20-4 with a 3.18 ERA in 2016.

Interestingly, the Jays have twice previously started their home schedule against the Brewers. Last year's Jays went 46-35 at home (on their way to 89-73 overall), outscoring opponents by 38 runs in their home confines. Lawrence has surrendered three runs in just 2.0 innings over his first two Major League Baseball games. "There's a lot of guys who don't have long track records".
