According to a recent report from, the former Yankees shortstop and five-time champion has "expressed interest" in placing a bid on the struggling Major League Baseball franchise, whose owner, Jeffrey Loria, has been looking for suitors for the team since late a year ago.

Former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter is trying to become the owner of the Miami Marlins. Jeets is a part of the group led by former Morgan Stanley brokerage chief Gregory Fleming, who has a plethora of experience negotiating contracts with large sums of cash involved.

Girardi is also a former manager of the Marlins under owner Jeffrey Loria, the NY art dealer who is reportedly looking to sell the team after a tumultuous 14-year reign.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush has teamed with CitiGroup to finance another potential bid.

Jeter expressed interest in owning a Major League Baseball team an interview last May with CNBC's Squawk Box.

"I have no comment", said Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, who is in Washington to watch his team.

The Tar Heels will celebrate getting through the South Region and earning a trip to the Final Four, but expect it to be muted. Kentucky: Nobody has played in more Elite Eights than the Wildcats with this their 33rd overall and sixth under Calipari.

Jeter, who retired after the 2014 season, doesn't have the capital to be the main investor in a Marlins bid.

When asked about the Fox report, and the possibility of Jeter owning a franchise, current Marlins Manager Don Mattingly praised the former Yankee shortstop, telling the ESPN that Jeter has always aspired to be an owner, preferring that to the life of a coach. A third faction is reportedly being organized with Goldman Sachs. However, the Kushner family backed out after it was revealed Loria was up for ambassadorship under President Donald Trump.

The Marlins started playing in 1993, and have made the postseason twice in their history, winning the World Series in 1997 and 2003.

They also moved into a new stadium. "But the commitment to Miami that I feel, that we feel, never wavered".

A steady hand at the helm is what the Marlins could use after suffering through an owner who was just as irascible as Steinbrenner, but without the trophies. "If you think about all the times back in 2002, I'm not sure people were lining up to replace John Henry". In February, Forbes reported there was a $1.6 billion agreement set up to buy the franchise.
