CNA today announced its participation in Distracted Driving Awareness month with an education campaign to promote safe driving behaviors.

Experts say distracted driving is a risky epidemic on New Jersey roadways.

Distracted driving deaths went up by 30% in Washington from 2014 to 2015. "However, we especially want to reach out to parents with teen drivers because we know that, statistically, the under-20 age group had the highest proportion of distracted drivers involved in fatal crashes". That requires us to rethink defensive driving in light of distracted driving.

38-percent of Texas drivers have admitted to using their cell phone while behind the wheel.

Officers will be enforcing phone and texting laws, as well as other vehicle violations, including Assembly Bill 1785, which prohibits the use of wireless communication or use of Global Positioning System unless the device is voice operated, hands-free, installed in the auto console or mounted to the vehicle's dashboard.

According to NHTSA, an estimated 3,477 people were killed nationwide in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2015.

This summer, CDOT will launch a statewide, high-visibility awareness campaign aimed at decreasing distracted driving.

Ford recalling 53000 trucks that can roll away while parked
The company said on Wednesday it was recalling 211,000 vehicles in North America to replace potentially faulty side door latches. Even more alarming is the issue the trucks are being recalled for: there's the possibility they could roll away while parked.

The high visibility law enforcement initiative will target motorists who engage in unsafe distracted driving behaviors such as talking on hand-held cell phones and sending text messages while driving.

"Do the right thing-put your phone away when you get behind the wheel".

Some studies have shown distracted driving reduces reaction time even more than driving while intoxicated, not that doing either is a good idea.

In 2016, CDOT introduced the Killer Habit distracted driving PSA as part of the Drop the Distraction campaign.

Speak up. If your friends are texting while driving, tell them to stop. Texting while driving is illegal for all drivers, as a secondary offense. "It's our responsibility to cite reckless and distracted drivers year-round in order to keep Colorado roads safe".

Distracted driving is any non-driving activity with the potential to distract a person from the primary task of driving and increase the risk of crashing.
