  • Dame Vera's almost 100...but where did it all begin?

The Forces Sweetheart, who was serenaded by pupils at her former primary school as she marked her centenary, has released her new album, Vera Lynn 100. Eight years ago, she became the oldest living artist to have a United Kingdom number one album.

The record features re-orchestrations of some of her most famous songs including We'll Meet Again and (There'll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover.

Three days before her birthday, she released "Vera Lynn 100", a new album which includes old favorites set to new orchestral accompaniments.

Dame Vera, who turns 100 today, also recounts the night British soldiers rushed to hold her piano together when it fell apart mid-performance following a bumpy drive through the jungle.

Holding her medal of the Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour at her home in Ditchling, East Sussex.

Sir Patrick Stewart was among those paying tribute to Dame Vera, admitting that her music still makes him cry.

It is not her first time in the record books either as Dame Vera became the oldest person to have a United Kingdom number 1 album in 2009 with We'll Meet Again.

No release date was announced and a rep for Berry and Berry's record label did not return Fox News' request for comment. Berry soon realized that he would have to play for multiracial audiences, as he was booked on segregated theaters.

Dame Vera launched her career at the Kursaal Ballroom in Southend where she performed with the Howard Baker Band in 1939, aged just 22.

Dame Vera travelled the world, often at great personal risk, to entertain and give hope to the troops with classic songs such as The White Cliffs of Dover and We'll meet again.

Among British Servicemen she became known as the "Forces" sweetheart'.

"I wonder if she ever heard me on the radio after that".

'I feel so blessed to have reached this milestone and I can't think of a more meaningful way to mark the occasion'.

The Queen, who during World War Two learned to be a driver and a mechanic while serving in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service, sent a 100th birthday message to Lynn.

She also praised the students for a "very well sung" medley and was virtually presented with a vanilla sponge cake shaped into the number 100.
