Pickup Truck Protesters Flying Confederate Flag Outside NCAA Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Confederate flag caused a controversy during an NCAA tournament in SC.
By the early afternoon there were about a dozen protesters, many carrying Confederate flags, across the street from the arena's main entrance.
'Freedom of speech activities on public property in areas surrounding the arena are managed by the city of Greenville and we are supportive of the city's efforts'.
According to an Associated Press report, a group of protesters raised the flag from the back of a pickup truck atop the deck next to Bon Secours Wellness Arena. SC and North Carolina vs. Arkansas, the Associated Pressreported.
A small group of protesters marred the return of the NCAA men's basketball tournament to the state of SC.
Johnathan Bragg, a police information officer for the Greenville police department, told SB Nation that no arrests were made in connection with the flag protests. Based on the behavior of both of the Carolinas, the NCAA might be best to steer clear of both states. Last year, the NCAA banned championship games from North Carolina due to the anti-transgender HB2 legislation, and then moved some March Madness games from Greensboro to Greenville.
"The NCAA is proud and excited to host championships in the state of SC once again", the NCAA's Dan Gavitt said in an emailed release.
That led the NAACP and others to turn out for a march to the arena steps in support of taking down the flag.
Judith Browne Dianis - the executive director of the Advancement Project, an American nonprofit focusing on racial justice issues - said that there are too many people in these states that still celebrate symbols of racism and oppression, and that the Confederate flag can not be disconnected from slavery or the legacy of Jim Crow in America.
