Russia's foreign ministry on Monday said it had summoned Israel's ambassador over the strikes and "expressed concern".

Russian Federation summoned the Israeli ambassador to demand an explanation for Israel's air raids in Syria last week, Moscow has confirmed, as a second incident was reported blaming an Israeli drone for a targeted killing of a senior pro-Assad fighter.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the strikes targeted weapons shipments to Hezbollah.

'The next time the Syrians use their air defence systems against our planes we will destroy them without the slightest hesitation, ' Lieberman said yesterday. Syria's air defense force fired anti-aircraft missiles at the planes as they were returning from the mission.

Commenting again on last week's events, the Israeli military's chief of staff, Gen Gadi Eisenkot, referred to the airstrike on Sunday. Israel said it shot down one of the interceptors with its Arrow long-range SAMs.

On Friday, Israeli planes attacked several targets in Syria.

Troops are now advancing towards the Mosul's grand mosque where the Islamic State declared a caliphate in 2014. An air strike targeting one Islamic State position hit a building, engulfing nearby troops in smoke and dust.

"Hezbollah has been violating United Nations resolutions and is gearing for war", he said.

In a rare statement, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed to having carried out aerial strikes in Syria and intercepted missiles launched at its aircraft from the ground.

Israel has a long record of violating Syrian airspace with impunity that stretches back to before 2011, when the country's current armed conflict began.

"We have no interest in interfering in the Syrian civil war, not for nor against (President Bashar) Assad, and we have no interest in clashing with the Russians", Liberman said.

Addressing the flurry of Israeli attacks against Syria in recent days, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah says he believes Israel is deliberately trying to help ISIS in an effort to prevent ISIS from suffering outright defeat in Syria amid growing pressure.
