  • The ambulance is seen on Watson Ave. as police investigate the incident Thursday

Arroyo had been driving the ambulance through the Bronx, with another female EMT in the passenger seat, when a passerby flagged down the ambulance at about 7 p.m. and told them a man was riding on the rear bumper, police said.

"The vehicle ran over her, and you could see it hop", said music producer SwavyJayBeats, who was being driven home when he started videotaping the runaway ambulance. Video posted to Twitter by a bystander shows the ambulance speeding across an intersection with one of its doors open, its lights flashing and the body of Arroyo being dragged underneath the vehicle. The EMT that was struck was taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition, but she later died from her injuries.

When Arroyo pulled over, she and her partner exited the vehicle. They were in the process of responding to a call.

"The tragic death of EMT Yadira Arroyo is anothe grim reminder of the dangers that first responders face every day to keep us safe", Answer the Call Board Chairman Stephen Dannhauser said in a statement. They save lives. But they should not ever have to be subjected to violence. At that moment, a transit police officer who was driving by stopped his auto and apprehended the suspect with the help of passersby who also were in the area, Wilcox said.

FDNY media Yadira Arroyo was run over and killed by her own ambulance last night. The family is "going through unspeakable grief", he said.

Jose Gonzalez, 25, was arraigned on charges of murder, manslaughter and robbery Friday afternoon.

The company also gave no certain dates about when the PlayStation 3 would shop shipping in Japan. In Japan, now there is only one model of PlayStation 3: The charcoal black 500GB version.

The man then rammed the ambulance into a parked vehicle and got stuck in a snowbank, Wilcox told reporters. "And yet, that danger always exists for them", Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a news conference late Thursday.

"Makes sense, the guy just ran over her partner", an FDNY source said.

"It's a sad night. for everyone in the department", he said.

The DA's office said Gonzalez has a long history of misdemeanors in the Bronx, including two pending cases.

Arroyo's brother and fellow EMT Joel Rosado says he became a medic to follow in her footsteps.

A defense lawyer says a man accused of fatally running over an emergency medical technician with a stolen ambulance is severely mentally ill and didn't act deliberately.
