  • Falcon 9 rocket performed static fire test

The launch, SpaceX's second from the historic Launch Complex 39A (LC39A) at NASA's Kennedy's Space Center, had been postponed from two days earlier due to high winds. The U.S. -built, U.S. -owned EchoStar 23 spacecraft will provide direct-to-home television broadcasts to Brazilian customers for EchoStar Satellite Services of Colorado.

The Air Force's Space and Missile Systems Center, which buys rockets for national security launches, said Tuesday that it had received two bids for the latest mission.

LC39A was the launch site for the Apollo 11 moon mission and for the last space shuttle in 2011. The launch, which took place at 2 AM ET on Thursday, saw SpaceX succeed in placing the EchoStar XIII 22,000 miles up from the surface of the blue planet.

Unlike recent SpaceX flights, there were no landing legs or steering fins on the Falcon 9's first stage. It took off along with a communications satellite for a delivery to an extremely distant orbit.

The heavyweight payload (estimated at six tons) demanded more effort from the Falcon 9 rocket, therefore no return trip was initiated.

FSU knows mistakes would be costly vs. Xavier
After a three immediately out of the break gave ETSU its first - and only - lead of the game, Florida answered with an 11-2 run. The Xavier Musketeers are averaging 74.7 points on 45.5 percent shooting and allowing 71.2 points on 45.1 percent shooting.

The press release does not give details on which GPS III satellite SpaceX will launch and gives no launch date. While SpaceX is known for innovation in the field of aerospace with countless launches and subsequent recoveries of their rockets, today's event was just a standard launch.

The Falcon 9 Block 5 will be the final version of the design. SpaceX on Tuesday also landed a second Air Force contract to launch a Global Positioning System satellite.

SpaceX will deliver a GPS-III satellite into orbit for the military from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in February 2019, according to the announcement.

Elon Musk has struck gold again as SpaceX has bagged a $96.5 million contract with the U.S. Air Force. This is the second of nine competitive launch services planned in the FY 2017 President's Budget Request under the current Phase 1A procurement strategy.
