  • The midfielder was sidelined indefinitely in February but is targeting a comeback next season

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Götze will not play again this season, but has responded well to the first phase of his treatment for a metabolic disorder, the club have revealed.

"The overall sporting goal for the player is to be fully operational at the beginning of next season".

The 24-year-old former Bayern Munich man has not featured for Dortmund since a substitute appearance against Mainz on January 29, and was ruled out indefinitely after being diagnosed with the problem last month.

If the player responds well to the treatment then he can return to training in the early summer. Regarding Gotze, a metabolic disease was detected in February, which made it necessary to remove the World Champion from training. "The midfield player is now undergoing rehab and an individual training program".
