Vikings tap Latavius Murray as Adrian Peterson's replacement

  • Seahawks sign Eddie Lacy, so what does that mean for Adrian Peterson?

The 31-year-old running back would have been due $18 million in salary against the cap in 2017 had he stayed in Minnesota.

Late last night, the Vikings signed Latavius Murray, who has spent the last four years with the Raiders.

The Vikings had decided not to exercise the option in Peterson's contract for the 2017 season, but there was no word whether he was made another offer by the team. A source, though, said Cook is still considering Minnesota.

Cook, who played last season with Green Bay but won't be re-signed, visited Seattle before checking out the Vikings.

Cuonzo Martin resigns from Cal, reportedly headed to Missouri
He has been rumored for many different jobs including Missouri and IL , who both fired their underperforming head coaches. Martin went on to play at Purdue and later had a four-year National Basketball Association career with the Atlanta Hawks.

Murray spent his first four National Football League seasons with the Raiders. Some 10 years later, picking up blitzes and catching passes are more critical than ever for running backs.

Since free agency began Thursday, the Vikings have had eight players leave for other teams and have not signed any of their own free agents. Maybe in Oakland? But one thing is for sure, it will not be in Minnesota. That's $5 million a season, which is not too bad by today's running back standards. Patterson had wrote on Snapchat on Saturday he wanted to re-sign with Minnesota, and he addressed that Tuesday in Oakland.

Peterson, however, is 31, and running backs - even the best ones - can rapidly go downhill at that age.

"I'm planning on playing next season, " Newman told the network. Obviously, I know it's a business - that I've learned these last few days. "I do have a deal that is imminent". Like Peterson, Murray is a big and powerful back, but that's not all he has in common with the future Hall of Famer.
