Cuonzo Martin resigns from Cal, reportedly headed to Missouri

California head coach Cuonzo Martin informed his team that he would be taking another job, sources told Scout.

He previously was the coach at Tennessee and Missouri State for three season each.

We'll update this post as the coaching situation in Bloomington continues to develop.

Martin was offered the Missouri job Wednesday and accepted it shortly thereafter, ESPN's Jeff Goodman first reported. Martin is a native of East St. Louis, IL. There are now two scholarships for Martin to work with in the 2017 recruiting class. Missouri has Texas point guard C.J. Roberts signed but has the option to look around since Anderson is no longer the coach.

He made two NIT apperances with the Volunteers before reaching the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament in 2014. The Golden Bears went 21-13 this season after losing to CSU Bakersfield in the first round of the NIT on Tuesday.

He is consistently a.600 winning percentage coach, putting up overall records of 61-41 at Missouri State, 63-41 at Tennessee, and 62-39 at Cal, all over the course of three seasons at each school.

Last season, Cal went a ideal 18-0 at home and tied for third in the Pac-12 with a 23-11 overall record and 12-6 record in conference. He has been rumored for many different jobs including Missouri and IL, who both fired their underperforming head coaches. Martin went on to play at Purdue and later had a four-year National Basketball Association career with the Atlanta Hawks. He will become Missouri's fifth head coach since 1999.
