Many Vancouver employers plan to hire staff in 2017's second quarter, giving the city a "favourable hiring climate", according to ManpowerGroup's employment outlook survey released March 14.

The "net employment outlook" (the percentage of employers who projected an increase in recruitment minus the percentage who tipped a drop) is +8 per cent - even after adjusting for seasonal factors.

Van den Barselaar said: "Many businesses will be more cautious about increasing staffing levels".

"It is also a decrease of five percentage points from the outlook reported during the same time a year ago, indicating a fair hiring pace for the upcoming months".

That is stronger than the fourth quarter outlook, when a net 10 percent of employers expected to add to their work force. In the northern part of the country (including the business hub of Oulu), companies predict there is a greater chance that they will have to resort to redundancies than be able to hire more employees. The public administration & education sector, which has the highest net employment outlook of +17 per cent (seasonally adjusted), is tipped to absorb the highest number of the increase.

India Inc. will continue hiring new talent in the second quarter of calendar year 2017, but its hiring intention is at its weakest in over 11 years, according to a recent survey.

Neiman Marcus Considers Sale After Failed IPO
Neiman Marcus is the latest retailer to face struggles, thanks to shifts in consumer buying habits and unpredictable weather. It was sold to private equity firm Ares Management and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board for $6bn in 2013 .

The strongest hiring prospects are reported by large employers, followed by medium-sized and small businesses.

"For the first time since the launch of the Romanian edition of the ManpowerGroup research, in Q2/2008, Outlooks are positive in all eight regions and all of the 10 industry sectors in the country, although employee confidence still varies widely from one region or one sector to the next", said Corina-Bianca Gonteanu, Strategic Director of Marketing Europe, ManpowerGroup. However, India's Net Employment Outlook has now dipped by varying margins for five consecutive quarters.

But the manufacturing and finance, insurance & real estate sectors are planning to trim hirings by four and three percentage points respectively.

Nationally, the net employment outlook was at 19 percent, up from 13 percent in the first quarter and 18 percent previous year.

The outlook has weakened for three sectors, including wholesale trade & retail trade and mining & construction.
