  • Early video: 3 children rescued from Harrisburg, PA rowhouse fire

In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Friday, a 3-year-old toddler died from a fire blamed on a recharging hoverboard.

Eight months since the Consumer Products Safety Commission recalled almost 500,000 hoverboards for fire safety issues, a three-year-old child has died in a fire that investigators believe was started by a recharging hoverboard.

Imani and another girl were in critical condition after the fire. The other did not survive.

According to PennLive, fire chief Brian Enterline said the cause of the fire was accidental, the culprit being a rechargeable hoverboard. She was pronounced dead about 11:32 a.m. Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township. Three minors were pulled from the burning home.

A fire broke out in a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania home around 8 p.m. Friday.

"Denny was a leader in our department and the fire service as a whole", Enterline wrote in a news release on Saturday.

In the chaotic rush to the scene, Harrisburg Fire Lieutenant Dennis DeVoe's vehicle was struck at an intersection.

EMS arrived on scene and immediately took Lt. DeVoe to Hershey Medical where he later died.

Fire chief Enterline tells PennLive that hoverboards are "notorious for starting fires", and warned residents to stop using the devices.

"They heard the crackling and it started smoking", he said.

To further compound Friday's tragedy, a firefighter died while responding to the blaze - and a teenager was charged with allegedly driving a stolen auto while intoxicated in the fatal crash. The investigation into the fire is ongoing. Kendall was charged with DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury, receiving stolen property, false reports to police, driving without a license and other traffic violations.

DeVoe, of Stewartstown, was a career firefighter for the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire, and also volunteered with fire companies in Fawn Grove and Whiteford, Harford County, Maryland.

After the scooters emerged as one of the hottest gifts of the 2015 holiday, reports of hoverboard fires soon began to surface.
