  • Debbie Wasserman Schultz was with Muhammad Ali Jr. as he was detained for the second time in little more than a month

If you recall, last month Muhammad Ali, Jr., and mother, Khalilah Camacho-Ali, the second wife of Muhammad Ali, were detained by immigration officials at at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. When they went through the procedure of airport routines, Homeland Security personnel detained Ali Jr. for 20 minutes.

Mancini told the New York Daily News that the officials rejected Ali's identification and kept asking him where he was from.

Muhammad Ali Jr. was flying home to Florida from Washington D.C., when he was temporarily delayed from boarding the Jet Blue flight at Reagan National Airport, the Sun Sentinel reported.

This time, Ali Jr. was trying to make his way back to Florida, after spending time in Washington.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) happened to be on the same plane to Florida as Ali on Friday.

"Upon arriving at the airline check-in counter, a call was made to confirm Mr Ali's identity with TSA officials", the agency said.

Winning once will be a handful in itself given the opponent is 10th-seed in , which lost in overtime at Iowa on February 21. The bottom four seeds have to play on the first day and, to win the tournament, need to win a brutal five games in a row.

Mancini said "quite obviously he's now been put on a different status" and is on some form of watch list.

The TSA gave a statement refuting the version of events given by Ali's lawyer and claiming that he was only stopped on Friday because of "his large jewelry".

Hugh Handeyside from the ACLU added that the Fourth Amendment, which protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures, was also broken when Ali was detained. After 11 minutes, he was eventually cleared and sent to the security checkpoint.

Ali testified before Congress on Thursday, when he spoke at length about being detained as a result of President Trump's first travel ban. The late heavyweight champion's son traveled to Washington on Wednesday to speak to members of a congressional subcommittee on border security about that experience. "We criticized DHS and Trump".

He asked: 'If it isn't a Muslim ban, why did they ask about my religion?'

Earlier this week they unveiled a campaign for religious freedom in the spirit of the boxing icon, supported by former boxers Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes and Roberto Duran among others.
