High-speed chase ends in airborne crash

  • A pickup that led Webster sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase Tuesday afternoon crashed in the Nickey's parking lot

The high-flying ending to the chase in Webster Parish, La., remarkably ended with no injuries and escaped work-release participant Kevonte Dekorey Austin was taken into custody, reports KSLA.

They say she took cover in the passenger seat and wasn't hurt.

The truck went airborne and landed on top of a vehicle parked in a restaurant parking lot.

An hour before the video happened, a deputy had pulled over the driver of the pickup truck for speeding.

It started off with a routine traffic stop, until the driver was asked out of the truck for questioning.

The driver and his passenger were OK, deputies said.

Randy Sayers said, "He came back through going 90 miles per hour".

Barbara Harlon who was in the parked auto at the time of the crash told KSLA12 News he managed to escape the wreckage by climbing out the passenger door.

Law enforcement told KSLA that the Toyota Tacoma driven by Austin was stolen. "He was moving. I came here and saw the outcome of this and thank God he didn't kill nobody".

Authorities later determined the truck Austin was driving during the chase had been stolen.
